It is definetly wrong to call it a bike pack day – however calling it a rough effort in the saddle is definetly correct. This review will not have the usual bun review – as my main consumption during the ride was lots of gels and water. When taking into account that the day included a 28 degree a clear blue sky – it made it even thougher.
The Ironman Elsinore bike leg is perfect for those who wants to explore the scenic areas around Elsinore without having to climbe many altitude meters. As a start, if you are not already in the town for the Ironman race, getting there is quite easy with the train from Copenhagen.
Ride Report:
Before starting the bike, I suggest that you visit the beautiful Kronborg Castle before heading out through the city The course first takes you along the coast, just by the water line. It is very open, so be aware of the side wind – it is highly likely that you will feel it. The route will take this road both north and south, meaning that a good tail wind on the way out, will hit you in the face on the way back – so be prepared.
Just before Hornbæk, the course takes left leaving the coast. With a small climb it takes you into a foresty and farm land. The land is still very open, so you will still feel the wind on your body. As you see from the map below, the loop takes you around the area towards Lake Esrum, before you head back to Elsinore after approx 60 km. The last 30 km is a new loop west of Elsinore towards Tikøb around Lake Gurre.
The climb on this route is very limited – only 452 alitude meters over the 90 km ride.
On a last note – if you are prepping for the Ironman and would like to test the course. Download the GPX file here: https://www.strava.com/routes/2977519197363244604 and upload it to Zwift.
