After drying up, we were met with a sunny day for our “cycling classics” ride. It was definetly on of the days we were looking forward to! Starting out in Roubaix, we headed directly to the velodrome. Some construction work were in progress, but we were still allowed in the velodrome. It was a massive expereince to cycle around the track that every year is featured in the final of Paris – Roubaix.

From the velodrome we set the GPS towards the Trench of Arenberg. As we only were planning about 120km for the day – we had more than enough time to stop for photos and enjoy the views when we got there. We also tried to ride some of the cobble – a video on that can be found on the bikeabout.cc instagram site.

After the photo and video session, we headed back towards Belgium – although we did not really know when we crossed the boarder as we were mainly seeing more fields with high grass. On the positive side, this grass took much of the wind – which made the ride a bit smoother.

Nevertheless, the smooth sailing would soon stop – as we were approaching Oude Kwaremont. However, if you are following the route you will see that there is a bit of a mess around this area – mainly because the GPS did guide us to the top of the hill – not the bottom. So we had find a way down (as we did not want to ride the cobbles down) – before climbing it and heading to Oudenaarde for a beer and check-in at Hotel Leopold.
